Internet More Important than Water?
Monday, November 7, 2011 at 3:36PM Just how important is technology to us? Here are some stats:
A recent study conducted by London’s Science Museum polled 3,000 British adults on the one item they couldn’t live without. Internet was number 2, beating out clean drinking water, a refrigerator, a flushing toilet, and central heating, to name a few. More important than the internet, sunshine, which took the number one spot.
The adoption of the Internet in America from it’s beginnings with AOL and Prodigy in the early 1990s to today happened ten times faster than the adoption of the telephone and thirty times faster than the adoption of electricity, making it arguably the fastest growing trend in history, according to PR Newswire.
World Internet Stats shows that there were more than 2.09 billion internet users in March of 2011 compared to the 360 million users in December of 2000. That’s a growth of over 475% in just over 10 years.
